A Founder’s Formula For Starting Your Own Property Business

So you want to break into the property business, but you’re not quite sure where to start? Well, grab your hard hat, and whip out your pen and paper because our very own CEO and Neighbourgood co-founder, Murray Clark, is sharing his winning formula to help you transform your dreams into brick and mortar.

Tip #1: Embrace Evolution

It almost never ends the way you planned - and that’s okay! Neighbourgood is still in phase 1.0, and it’s likely to continue to change as industry and consumer needs change, too. You have to adapt and evolve. For example, Neighbourgood evolved from a brand called GOOD, which integrated the best of mixed uses within a single building. But, the model was too complicated. Those learnings were applied and Neighbourgood was born: An efficient city-wide network of living and working spaces, where members have access to all buildings and the benefits that extend from each.

Tip #2: Hold on to Your Unwavering Belief

Belief in yourself and the mission of your company is crucial to success. It’s important to have an unwavering confidence in yourself, your team, and the product you’re building (pun not intended but also kind of intended). This belief fuels the optimism and resilience required to overcome challenges and setbacks. It’s the foundation (yes, another building reference) that keeps you motivated and committed to your entrepreneurial journey.

Tip #3: Cultivate an Iron Will and Determination

Success is not achieved overnight, nor is it a linear path. Entrepreneurship demands an iron will and the determination to match it. It requires a relentless pursuit of your goals and a willingness to embrace the inevitable hardships that come with the territory. Building a successful business, especially in the property sector, requires the courage to face failures, adapt, and continuously improve.

Tip #4: Surround Yourself with Exceptional People

The power of a strong support system cannot be underestimated. As an aspiring entrepreneur, you should surround yourself with incredible individuals who share your energy and enthusiasm. Building a team of talented and passionate individuals helps create a collaborative environment where everyone is aligned with the mission and supports each other's growth.

Tip #5: Seek Mentorship and Continuous Learning

Never underestimate the value of a mentor! Every entrepreneur should find someone they can learn from - a person who has navigated the path before them. Mentors provide guidance, advice, and a fresh perspective based on their experiences. Additionally, constantly seek knowledge about your industry. The journey to becoming the best requires an obsession with learning and staying ahead of the curve.

Tip #6: Embrace Hard Work and Sacrifice

Entrepreneurship is a demanding endeavour that often requires a significant commitment of time and energy. Achieving your goals may require sacrificing work/life balance, at least for a time. Recognise that your entrepreneurial journey may require more energy and focus than other areas of your life. However, if this level of commitment is not for you, joining a mission-driven team or company can still provide a fulfilling experience.

Building a successful business requires belief, determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to your mission. Embrace the journey of evolution, surround yourself with exceptional people, seek mentorship, and never stop learning. Understand that the pursuit of entrepreneurship demands hard work and sacrifice, but the rewards can be immeasurable. So, venture forth with optimism, and may your entrepreneurial dreams become a reality!
